Marsh Children's Home Acapulco, Inc. website goes
live!
After
months of hard work, our Marketing Director
and Webmaster, Jeff Gillen,
officially launches Marsh Children's Home new website
- www.marshchildrenshome.org.mx! Originally started
in January, 2007, the project took many twists and
turns as we defined and refined the information architecture;
tested our website usabiltity; discussed database
necessities; and initiated strategy sessions for creating
a powerful online brand.
On November 16th, 2007, Hogar Infantil Marsh,
A.C. and Marsh Children's Home, Inc.,
officially enter the world wide web. Jeff
Gillen, Brand Strategist and Creative
Director of Mindcandy
Studios - based in Acapulco - donated his time,
talents and expertise to make this project become
reality. He also played the role of project manager
- coordinating the efforts of our copywriters and
editors, translators and our PHP programmer Tim
Starback at Info-Lounge
in Davis, California.
Robin Blackwood was our official
"wordsmith" and copy editor. Captain
Steve Wilson provided our original English-to-Spanish
translations, which were then passed along to Ricardo
Irvine and Jean-Paul Valtorta
for corrections and polishing - allowing us to appeal
to donors and sponsors on "both sides of the
border!" It was a fantastic team effort!
A huge thanks to Tim Starback and
Info-Lounge Software for their programming magic -
and for generously donating their time, helping us
with the "client-side" database functionality.
Tim's talents are truly indispensible!
Our new website is a testament to our dedication to
improving the lives of the wonderful boys and girls
at the Marsh Children's Home! We
hope you enjoy "surfing" and tell
your friends to visit our new website.

Meeting with MetLife of Mexico.
Hoy,
Vengan a visitarnos!!

A very special outing. The "Marsh Kids"
visit the Cuauhtémoc!
The Mexican Navy’s
three masted BRIQUE-BARQUE training ship is home ported
in Acapulco. Used to train Jr. Officers in the duties
at sea, the Cauahtémoc
spends six month of the year on training cruises with
cadets from the Mexican Naval Academy.
With a normal crew of 152, they take on an additional
90 cadets and sail to faraway places. They just returned
from a circumnavigation of the globe in the southern
hemisphere.
With Jean Paul Valtorta and Ricardo
Irvine’s contacts, all the Marsh Home
children were invited to visit this superb sailing
vessel.
On the quarterdeck for their arrival, the Commander
of the Cauahtémoc,
Captain Mario Carbajal Ramirez told
the children “This is your ship!” Captain,
Officers and crew pridefully showed the kids all the
working aspects of the vessel. But Capt. Carbajal
had an additional surprise! All the kids were taken
to the messdecks and a huge cake decorated as the
Cauahtémoc, sail
included, was brought out.
Last but not least, a special plaque was awarded to
our #1 "pillar of strength" Jovita
Godínez, Director and Founder
of the Marsh Children's Home, by
the ships Commander as recognition of her outstanding
work. Truly a great visit and a well deserved recognition
for Jovita's years of service!

Annual Fund-Raising party at the Torreblanca Condominiums
in Puerto
Marquez.
The
2007 Torreblanca 8th annual fund-raising
party, organized by Brent and Marlene
Huebner, was a resounding success - raising
$5,720 USD for the Marsh Children's Home. Raffle tickets
were sold to the condominium owners of Royal
Aloha's Torreblanca. Prizes included
dinners for two at some of Acapulco's most enjoyed
restaurants, including; Madieras, Pipo's,
& Carlos & Charlies.
It was also the first time that the children at the
Marsh Children's Home performed traditional folk dances
from the different regions of México for the
attendees at the annual fund-raising party. The guests
at the fund- raising party were delighted and amazed
when the children performed traditional Mexican folkloric
dances such as:
Danza de los Viejitos, XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXXXX, and
XXXXXXX -
Huge thanx go to Ricardo Irvine for
his financial donations to pay for the extravagant
costumes for these dances.
We
would also like to give our very special thanks to
go to our professional dance teacher NAME
HERE, from XXXXX Mexico.
NAME HERE travelled to
Acapulco and generously donating hundreds of hours
of her time and dance expertise at the Marsh Home
teaching the children how to perform these magical
dances.
Our very special thanks to Brent and
Marlene Huebner for organizing this
annual event - and to all of those in attendance who
participated by purchasing raffle tickets. The grand
prize and second prize, donated by Royal Aloha, was
free rooms at the Royal Aloha Torreblanca, located
in beautiful Puerto Marquez. It was a truly magical
evening - for both the children and the "vacacionistas!"

Outing to Acapulco's Isla de Roqueta
Early
Saturday morning, we piled the children from the Marsh
Home into the bus and drove to downtown Acapulco.
The children were treated to a glass-bottom boat ride
to the island just south of Caletta beach named Isla
de Roqueta. The spent a day playing at the beach
and swimming in the sparkling waters of Acapulco Bay
- building sandcastles, running and playing and had
a great picnic on the beach.
Special thanks go to Martin Ramos
from La Victoria Glass Bottom Boats
in Acapulco. The children had a wonderful
time!
