Egypt comes to Acapulco!

Samia Omar, a world class volunteer left the Marsh Children's Home after a seven month stay. She will be sorely missed by the children and all of us involved with the Marsh Home. A total workaholic, Samia spent most of her time with the children, teaching them crafts, helping with homework and remedial studies. She called to say she arrived safely in Andorra. She plans to return very soon. Samia, "Esta es su casa" (this is your house)!

Let;s update this story, talking about HOW FULFILLING Samia's experience was, and the fact that she decided to RETURN on a "permanent basis".

Arizona comes to Acapulco!

Bruce Redding from Phoenix, Arizona donated a super Canon digital camera. This will be used by our director to send current photos of the children to their sponsors and to update our database of new children.

One of our older boys, César, who has shown great interest in computers and technology, has been crowned the new Marsh Home "roving reporter." César's responsibilties at the Marsh Home are to help the children during computer lessons and to document the daily activities. César also take pictures of our volunteers and visitors and assists us with writing news stories. A future photographer or writer for La Reforma in Mexico City, we hope! Thank you very much Bruce for you spectacular gift!

Who ever said playing golf was a waste of time?

John Westman sent the Marsh Children's Home a donation via Dr. Klee Bethel, a motorcycle rider friend of Ricardo Irvine’s. John was very active in promoting the Marsh Children's Home a few years ago. We feature John on our 'Special Sponsors' page. John very generously organized GOLF TOURNAMENT to benefit the children at the Marsh Home. In one afternoon, John raised $2,700 dollars for the Marsh Home. Hole in one! John is a Marsh Ambassador™ in the making. Thanks a million, John!

Welcome back Wayne & Carol!

Carol and Wayne Nakoneczny returned for their 6th consecutive year as Marsh Volunteers! They kept busy giving English lessons, guitar lessons, helping the children with homework and assisting Jovita with child supervision. This couple is PRICELESS! Why sit in your hotel all day during your Acapulco vacation when you can "play all day" with the Marsh Kids? Welcome back Wayne and Carol! The kids can't wait for you both to return in 2008!

Capt. Steve Wilson & Robin Blackwood visit the Marsh Children's Home
.

A very special thanks to Capt. Steve Wilson, US Navy (Retired) and wife Robin Blackwood, from Phoenix, Arizona. They have now set up US nonprofit corporation to help generate funds for the Marsh Home in Acapulco. Steve and Robin are both retired US Navy Officers. Steve was Naval Attaché to Mexico at the US Embassy in Mexico City. In the course of his duties in the U.S. Navy, Steve became acquainted with the Marsh Home while he was bringing them donations and volunteers.

As many of us have, the Wilsons fell in love with the Marsh Children's Home, the children and with Jovita Godínez. Both serve on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Corporation named MARSH CHILDREN’S HOME ACAPULCO, INC.; Steve is serving as President and his wife, Robin Blackwood, serves as Treasurer.

Steve and Robin have generously sponsored Rubi, on of the young girls at the Marsh Children's Home.

The Huge Hearts of Harley Davidson!

On November 5th, 2006, the Marsh Home had a visit from the exclusive distributors for Harley Davidson Motorcycles in Mexico. They were organizing an International Harley Davidson Rally in Acapulco Nov 4-6. One of the finer things about HARLEY DAVIDSON RALLIES is the community assistance they give when they organize a Rally!

The "HOG's", or the Harley Owners Group of Mexico, are actively promoting the Marsh Children's Home to their members to generate financial donations and child sponsors. They will also donate all monies left over from this year's inscription fees. We wish them luck and thank them for their support!

The children at the Marsh Home were treated to some very special visitors - Mickey and Minnie Mouse! Special thanks to Mark Witko, Community Relations Director for Disney Cruise Lines. Mickey and Minnie and several "VoluntEARS" were an immediate hit. Both very generously posed for a photo with each and every child and presented each with a “101 Dalmatian” stuffed toy! They even brought their own cameras to take the pictures and generously left them for us to develop the file. A very special thanks to Disney Cruise Lines for bringing a little "Disney Magic" to the Marsh Children's Home!
