U.S.
NAVY & U.S. COAST GUARD
Over
a decade ago, a great tradition began for the Marsh
Children’s Home, with more frequent
port visits of U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels
to the Beautiful Bay of St. Lucia known to us all
as Acapulco Bay.
These visits, for both Logistics and Rest and Recreation,
have also been important examples of international
diplomacy, coordinated by the Defense Attaché
Office at the American Embassy in Mexico City. Volunteers
from these vessels, including Officers and Sailors,
men and women alike, have organized numerous outings
in support of the Marsh Children's Home’s
needs, and provide inspirational companionship and
support to our children. This support ranges from
such simple humanitarian efforts as spending a day
on the beach with the children, to invaluable assistance
with repairing and improving plumbing, washing machines,
light fixtures, and recreational equipment. But most
importantly, these Ambassadors give their time and
their love to the children, the thing they need most
of all!
We can scarcely thank all these brave men and women
who have spent their leisure time to give a bit of
themselves (or a lot!) to the Marsh Children's
Home which we have shared with them. We will
always keep them in our hearts. Thank You!
It would be impossible to mention the name of each
vessel which has participated in these invaluable
demonstrations of international good will, known as
Community Relations Projects (COMREL), but
to mention a few: USS KITTY HAWK, USS BOXER, USS JOHN
MOORE, USS CHANDLER, USS CURTS, USCGC HAMILTON, USCGC
BOUTWELL, USCGC SHERMAN, USCGC ACTIVE, USS HURRICANE,
USS SWIFT, and USCGC TYBEE; the list is longer, but
this is our way to once again say THANK YOU to all!
